FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State softball hit four home runs, including a pair from seniors on senior day, to split a doubleheader with Kansas City in Summit League action at Tharaldson Park. The Bison fell 4-0 to Kansas City in game one, before winning 11-3 in five innings in the second game.
In game one, Kansas City took the lead in the top of the second with a two-run home run from Sydney Nichols and it would be all that Roos pitcher Camryn Stickel needed. Stickel tossed a complete game shutout, scattering three hits and two walks. Kansas City would add a run in the fifth and then another in the seventh. Savy Williams picked up the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
However, the Bison would answer back with a four home runs in game two, starting with a three-run shot from Jasmyn Yessian and Ava Chavarria two pitches later in the bottom of the first to put the Bison up 4-0.
Senior Anjolee Aguilar-Beaucage hit a two-run home run in the second, followed by an RBI single from senior Reanna Rudd and another RBI single from Chavarria. The third and final senior, Emilee Buringa, scored the final runs for NDSU with a two-run home run in the third to put NDSU up by eight.
All nine batters in the Bison lineup reached safely in the game, with eight recording at least one hit. Macy Fry had a triple and Aguilar-Beaucage also had a double to cap NDSU's six extra-base hits.
Kaitlyn Dunford picked up her sixth win, tossing a complete game. She allowed three unearned runs on six hits with one strikeout in five innings.
The Bison and Roos will wrap up the series with the rubber match on Sunday. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. at Tharaldson Park.
