Two-year team captain for the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Division I FCS national champions...Went 20-3 as a starter...Missed eight games his senior year with a broken wrist but came back to start the national championship game...First North Dakota native to quarterback the Bison to a national championship...As a first-year starter, rallied the Bison out of a 14-0 deficit in the season-opening win at Iowa State and orchestrated two late game-winning drives in the playoffs...Intelligent player who poses a dual threat to opposing defenses with good speed and a strong arm...Finished third in NDSU history for career passing attempts (612), completions (392), yards (5115), touchdowns (45), completion percentage (.641) and pass efficiency rating (153.9)...Also fifth in NDSU history with 6,143 yards of total offense...Participated in 11 career NCAA playoff games over four seasons...Went 73 of 116 passing for 1,046 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing 58 times for 306 yards and five scores...Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA championship game his junior and senior years.

2015 SEASON (SENIOR):  Started the first six games before being sidelined with a broken right wrist...Missed eight games and went 12 weeks without a contest...Started practicing in early December and was cleared to play the week of the national championship game...Went 16 of 29 passing for 197 yards and one touchdown and led NDSU's rushing attack with 79 yards and two TDs in the 37-10 win over Jacksonville State...Sustained the injury in the first half against South Dakota, but completed the game going 16 of 28 passing for 195 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-21 loss...Passed for 1,454 yards and 16 touchdowns in the first six games...Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading NDSU on a 10-play, 79-yard game-winning drive in less than two minutes to beat Northern Iowa...The Bison won 31-28 on an 18-yard touchdown pass to Darrius Shepherd with 35 seconds left...Connected with 11 different receivers against UNI going 26 of 40 (both career highs) for 335 yards, the fifth most passing yards in NDSU single-game history...Set a school record with 143 passing attempts without an interception from the 2014 semifinal game against Sam Houston State to the UNI game...His nine touchdown passes were the best three-game start to a season for a Bison quarterback in school history...Named to the STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year watch list and College Football Performance Awards FCS National Performer of the Year watch list...Also named to the College Sporting News Preseason Fab 50 FCS All-America Team...MVFC Honor Roll, Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award, and Presidents Council Academic Award...NCAA Elite 90 award winner for the highest GPA at the national championship game.

2014 SEASON (JUNIOR): Started all 16 games at quarterback...Set NDSU single-season records for passing attempts, completions, yards, and total offense per game...Completed 228 of 358 passes for 3,111 yards with 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions...NDSU's second-leading rusher with 138 carries for 642 yards and six TDs while averaging 4.7 yards per carry...His 642 rushing yards were the most by a Bison QB since the veer-option offense of 1996...Rushed for 100 yards vs. South Dakota State and 120 vs. Youngstown State...Went 18 of 28 for 204 yards in his first start to beat Iowa State 34-14...Completed his first four passes at Iowa State to extend a streak of 10 consecutive completions including his last four appearances of the 2013 season...Career-high 247 passing yards and school-record five TDs in the win at Missouri State...Caught the game-tying 16-yard touchdown pass from running back John Crockett in a 17-10 comeback win at Western Illinois...Marched the Bison 76 yards in eight plays and 2:18 to beat South Dakota State in the FCS second round capped by a 12-yard pass to RJ Urzendowski...Scored the game-winning touchdown on a five-yard run to lift the Bison past Illinois State 29-27 with 37 seconds left in the FCS title game...Connected with Urzendowski on passes of 32, 13 and 33 yards to highlight that six-play, 78-yard drive that took just 1:01 off the clock...Named Most Outstanding Player of the title game...MVFC All-Academic first team and Capital One Academic All-America first team...NCAA Elite 89 award winner for the highest GPA at the national championship game...Named to the MVFC Honor Roll.
 
2013 SEASON (SOPHOMORE): Appeared in 11 games as the second-string quarterback…Completed 22 of 30 passes for 209 yards and one touchdown…Ran 10 times for 70 yards…Went 10 of 13 passing for 105 yards and a TD against Delaware State…Also carried four times for 44 yards against the Hornets…MVFC Honor Roll and Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award…NCAA Elite 89 award winner for the highest GPA at the national championship game.
 
2012 SEASON (FRESHMAN): Played in eight games...Completed 12 of 16 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns...Completed 8 of 8 passes for 93 yards and one TD vs. Prairie View A&M (9-22-12)...Rushed five times for 22 yards and one TD...MVFC Honor Roll and Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award.
 
2011 SEASON (REDSHIRT): Sat out season as redshirt in the Bison program...Named to the MVFC Honor Roll.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: 2011 graduate of Bismarck Century High School...2010 North Dakota Class 3A Player of the Year for Century and head coach Ron Wingenbach...All-state at-large pick...All-conference at quarterback and defensive back...Led team to 8-3 record, conference title and state semifinals...Completed 91 of 149 passes for 1,285 yards and 12 TDs...Rushed 85 times for 553 yards and 13 TDs...Recorded 61 tackles and two interceptions...Three-year starter for baseball team...Played first base for 2010 American Legion and high school state runner-up teams...Hit .386 with 26 RBIs for Century as junior, batted .421 with 41 RBIs for Bismarck Governors Legion...Forward/center for the state’s No. 1-ranked basketball team...Class Valedictorian...National Honor Society.
 
PERSONAL: Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft...Majored in health education and physical education with a minor in psychology...Maintained a cumulative 4.0 GPA through his senior season…Completed a degree in university studies in December 2020...Son of Doug Wentz and Cathy Anhalt, both of Bismarck, N.D...His brother, Zach Wentz, was a four-year starting pitcher and infielder for NDSU baseball and key part of a 40-win team in 2012 while setting career records for games played, hits and doubles...His cousin, Connor Wentz, was a tight end on his 2013, 2014 and 2015 football teams at NDSU...Father played linebacker at Northern State in the 1980s.
