NDSU Rolls Past Florida Atlantic, 12-3

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The North Dakota State baseball team scored a season-high 12 runs to cruise past Florida Atlantic, 12-3, on Tuesday afternoon at FAU Baseball Stadium.

The Owls (13-5), who entered the contest on a seven-game win streak, got the scoring starting as Nolan Schanuel launched a two RBI home run to deep center to make the score 2-0 in the opening frame. Following a scoreless second inning, Cadyn Schwabe sparked the Bison (9-7) with a sacrifice fly into center to score Druw Sackett, 2-1. Peter Brookshaw then followed it up connecting on an RBI single into right to lock the contest, 2-2. Logan Williams capped off the big inning with his team-high third home run of the season with a two RBI shot to right center to stretch the edge to 4-2.

After three scoreless innings, the Bison erupted for a four run seventh inning. Brookshaw got the frame started with an RBI single to push the edge to 5-2. Jack Simonsen then drove a two RBI single to right center to push the lead up to 7-2. One batter later, Terrell Huggins reached on an error allowing Simonsen to add on an unearned run to expand the edge to 8-3.

Following a home run from Gabriel Rincones Jr. in the seventh, the Bison put the game out of reach tacking on four insurance runs in the ninth frame to increase the advantage to 12-3 after Brookshaw delivered an RBI single through the right side. Caden Edwards closed out the final inning on the hill for the Bison with one strikeout to seal the 12-3 victory.

NDSU connected on a season-high 16 hits with seven different players contributing at least one. Brookshaw went 3-of-4 at the plate with two runs and a team-high three RBI. Brock Anderson also notched a game-high three runs with three hits and one RBI.

Tristen Roehrich (2-1) picked up the win tossing three strikeouts over 3.0 innings. Riley Johnson made his first start of the season totaling a team-high five strikeouts over 3.0 innings.

NDSU will be back in action at Florida Gulf Coast tomorrow. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. CT
