WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The North Dakota State baseball team split with Maine, 7-0, and, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Stadium at the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational.
In game one, NDSU (8-7) fell short against Maine (3-9), 7-0. The Black Bears got off to a fast start as Joe Bramanti launched a two RBI home run into left field to make the score 2-0. Maine continued to surge from there adding on two runs in the second and three in the third to put the game out of reach, 7-0.
Evan Sankey (2-2) got the start on the mound and tossed three strikeouts over 2.2 innings.
Caden Edwards also fired two strikeouts over 2.1 innings, while
Reese Ligtenberg finished the final frame with three strikeouts.
NDSU bounced back in game two of the doubleheader to earn a 4-2 win over Maine. After a scoreless first two innings,
Logan Williams sparked the Bison connecting on an RBI single into left field to make the score 1-0 in the third. The Bison then added on three more runs in the fourth frame after
Cadyn Schwabe delivered an RBI single and Williams notched a two RBI single into left to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Maine attempted to rally in the ninth pushing two runs across to cut the deficit in half, 4-2. The Black Bears then got two more runners on, but
Jake Drew closed out the final inning on the hill with one strikeout to earn his third save of the season and preserve the 4-2 win.
The Bison totaled nine hits as a team with Williams contributing a season-high three hits and season-best three RBI.
Cade Feeney (2-1) nearly went a complete game tossing a season-high six strikeouts over 8.0 innings with no walks.
NDSU will be back in action on Tuesday at Florida Atlantic. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. CT
