ST. GEORGE, Utah – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision against Dixie State at Bruce Hurst Field on Friday night.
The Trailblazers (2-2) used a three-run third inning to open up a 3-0 edge. Jagun Leavitt got the scoring started sending a two RBI home run to right field to make the score 2-0. Tyler Hollow followed it up later in the frame with an RBI single to stretch the advantage to 3-0.
After Dixie State added an insurance run in the seventh,
Jack Simonsen attempted to get a rally started for the Bison (3-2) in the ninth with an RBI single into right field to cut the deficit to three, 4-1. However, NDSU couldn't get anything going the rest of the way and dropped the contest, 4-1.
The Bison connected on six total hits in comparison to the Trailblazers' four.
Max Loven (0-1) picked up the loss on the mound allowing three hits over 5.0 innings.
Shea Zetterman finished the final 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.
NDSU will continue its four-game series against Dixie State tomorrow. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:05 p.m. CT
