NDSU Women’s Basketball Signs Marina Fernandez

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State University women's basketball head coach Maren Walseth announced Thursday, April 13, the signing of junior college standout Marina Fernandez to a National Letter of Intent to attend NDSU and play basketball beginning in the fall of 2017.

"I am very pleased to welcome Marina and her family into our Bison family," Walseth said. "Marina loves to play fast, has an incredible outside shot, and really wants to win as a team. Her experience and feel for the game will immediately complement our guards offensively and defensively."

Fernandez comes to North Dakota State after a standout career at Casper College in Casper, Wyo.

A 6-foot guard from Barcelona, Spain, Fernandez was an All-Region IX honoree during the 2016-17 season.

In her two years at Casper College, she helped guide her team to a 51-14 record. She led her team in three-pointer made (44) and assists (115) as a sophomore. At Casper, she is ranked in the top 10 in career assists.

Before college, she played for BF Sant Adria and CEJ Hospitalet in Spain.

At BF Sant Adria, her team won the Regional Catalan Championship and placed seventh at the Spanish U18 Championship.

At CEJ Hospitalet, she was named all-state for her U16 team.

Fernandez is the daughter of Antonio and Ana Fernandez. She plans to major in exercise science at North Dakota State.
