Bison Men Tune Up at Final Home Meet

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team registered a number of season-best performances at the NDSU Tune-Up Meet in Fargo on Friday – its final meet before the Summit League Outdoor Championships.
Junior Conrad Schwarzkopf won the hammer throw at a personal-best 204-9 (62.41m) that ranks him second in NDSU history in the event. Steffan Stroh also recorded a new personal-best of 202-4 (61.67m), ranking him second in Summit League this year and third in school history.
Schwarzkopf also added an event title in the shot put at 58-06.50 (17.84m).
Freshman sprinter Karter Gorney clocked a wind-aided 10.58 seconds to run away with the 100m dash title, and sophomore Matt Bedard won the 200m in a wind-aided 21.84. Gorney ran 21.87 in the 200m for second place.
A pair of Bison seniors earned event victories in their final home meet. Colin Paarmann won the triple jump with a mark of 47-02.25 (14.38m), and senior Beau Kashmark earned a win in the high jump, clearing 6-07.00 (2.01m).
Grant Mjelstad cleared an outdoor personal-best 16-02.00 (4.93m) for first place in the pole vault. Sophomore Kevin Drotts claimed first in the javelin with a throw of 178-4 (54.36m). Matt Moberg was the runner-up in the long jump, posting a wind-aided personal-best mark of 22-09.00 (6.93m).
Sophomore Payton Otterdahl took runner-up honors in the discus. Redshirt freshman Ryan Enerson set a new personal-best in the pole vault, clearing 14-02.50 (4.33m) for third place.
At the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D., NDSU's Landon Jochim won the 400m dash for the third straight year, staying undefeated in his career at the meet. Jochim clocked 47.99 for his winning time.
NDSU senior Brendan Skime claimed first in the 3000m steeplechase at the Dakota Relays, crossing the line in 9:20.96. Bison sophomore Brant Gilbertson clocked a personal-best time of 1:52.78 in the 800m for a runner-up finish.
The Bison will travel to Vermillion, S.D., next week to compete at the Summit League Outdoor Championships on May 12-14.
