ELMHURST, Ill. – North Dakota State's
Alex Renner and
Katelyn Weimerskirch were named Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Drake Relays on Apr. 29-30.
This is the fourth consecutive week that the Bison women have claimed the league's Athlete of the Week honor, with four different women earning the award –
Sierra Rosenau,
Erin Teschuk,
Courtney Pasiowitz and Weimerskirch.
Renner is the third Bison to win the men's award this outdoor season, joining
Brock Larson and
Matti Mortimore.
Men's Athlete of the Week
Alex Renner, North Dakota State
Jr. // Watertown, S.D.
- Named Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and third time in his career
- Took second place at the prestigious Drake Relays in the shot put with a throw of 59-09.50 (18.22m) behind Ohio State's JC Murasky
- Placed 15th in the hammer throw with a toss of 180-6 (55.01m)
- Currently ranked 16th nationally in the shot put
- Ranks first in The Summit League in the shot put and second in the hammer throw
Women's Athlete of the Week
Katelyn Weimerskirch, North Dakota State
Jr. // East Dubuque, Ill.
- Earned her second Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honor of her career
- Placed third in a pair of events at the historic Drake Relays - Discus throw with a mark of 172-0 (52.43m) and the hammer throw at 185-8 (56.60m)
- Posted the second-best discus mark of her career, the top mark in The Summit League, and the 39th-best mark in the NCAA
- Ranked in the NCAA's top 75 this season in the hammer throw, discus and shot put
