Jackson, Bison Throwers Stand Out at Dakota Classic

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team began its 2017 indoor season by hosting the Dakota Classic at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility on Friday, Dec. 2.
 
NDSU senior Rose Jackson scored a personal-best 3,799 points to win the pentathlon title. Jackson moved up to No. 2 all-time at NDSU in the event behind only All-American Whitney Carlson. Junior Amanda Levin finished second with 3,454 points, and freshman Macy Denzer was third with 3,279.
 
The Bison women swept the top seven places in the shot put, with junior Courtney Pasiowitz winning and sophomore Shelby Gunnells as the runner-up. Sophomore Bailey Retzlaff threw a personal-best 49-00.75 (14.95m) in the shot put finish third in the meet and rank sixth in NDSU indoor history.
 
Senior Katelyn Weimerskirch won the weight throw with a mark of 66-01.00 (20.14m) to lead a Bison sweep of the top five places in the event. Pasiowitz took second, and junior Jordyn Thornton was third with a personal-best toss of 60-01.75 (18.33m) to rank seventh in NDSU history.
 
Senior Amy Andrushko took first in the 600m, clocking 1:32.89 to rank seventh all-time at NDSU in the event.
 
Junior Gabby Grommesh won the 60m dash with a personal-best time of 7.73 seconds, tying her for 9th-fastest in NDSU history. Grommesh also clocked a career-best time of 25.39 seconds in the 200m dash for runner-up honors.
 
NDSU swept the top three spots in the 400m dash, with senior Morgan Milbrath winning in 55.93, junior Alexis Woods second in 56.72, and freshman Tara Smart third in 56.89.
 
Other Bison event champions included Jenny Guibert (800m), Sydney Bork (mile) and Deidre Hahn (high jump).
 
Unattached senior Anna Benke and Bison sophomore Klara Lyon both cleared 12-03.50 (3.75m) in the pole vault to finish first and second, respectively. Junior Piper Jensen placed second in the triple jump, matching her indoor PR at 37-05.75 (11.42m).
 
Lexy Boschee cleared an indoor personal-best of 5-09.25 (1.76m) in the pentathlon high jump.
