Erin Teschuk continued to blaze a trail like no Bison woman before her, racing to a Stanford Invitational title, a new school record and the nation's No. 2 time in the 1500m on Friday evening.
Â
But this time, Teschuk had company as she re-wrote the NDSU record books. Senior
Maddie Van Beek broke NDSU's 30-year-old school record in the 5,000 meters by 30 seconds, and junior
Sierra Rosenau extended her own Bison best in the javelin.
Â
Three Bison women. Three events. Three school records.
Â
Teschuk crossed the finish line in 4:17.10, defeating professional Emily Lipari – the second-place finisher in the elite section – by almost two seconds. She broke Laura Hermanson's previous NDSU record of 4:19.77 in the 1500m set in 2009.
Â
The second-, third- and fourth-place finishers behind Teschuk in the 1500m were all professionals, including two former NCAA champions and U.S. Olympian Geena Gall.
Â
The junior from Winnipeg, Manitoba, is now ranked second in the nation in the event. Last week, Teschuk posted the nation's No. 2 time in the 800m at 2:06.16.
Â
Teschuk wasn't the only Bison to earn a Stanford Invitational title on Friday. Junior
Sierra Rosenau won the javelin championship with a school-record throw of 164-0 (50.00m).
Â
Rosenau defeated four women ranked in the NCAA's top 30 on her way to first place. She is now ranked 13th in the nation this season.
Â
Van Beek's record might have been the most impressive of the three. The senior from Perham, Minn., ran 16:06.47 in the 5,000m, cutting 30 seconds off the previous NDSU record of 16:36.77 set by Nancy Dietman at the 1985 NCAA Championships.
Â
At the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, Bison sophomore
Taylor Janssen clocked a huge personal-best of 17:04.79 in the 5,000m to rank sixth all-time at NDSU.
Â
NDSU senior
Emily Lesser placed fourth in the invitational shot put at Stanford, throwing 49-08.50 (15.15m). Sophomore
Katelyn Weimerskirch won the collegiate section of the shot put with a mark of 45-05.75 (13.86m).
Â
Sophomore
Morgan Milbrath placed sixth in the 400m hurdles at Stanford in a near-personal-best time 1:00.76.
Â
The Bison women will compete at the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge hosted by Sacramento State on Saturday.
