Angus Stoudt used a balanced effort to pull away from the field and capture the decathlon title at the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic on Friday. Stoudt totaled a personal-best score of 6,723 points.
The Excelsior, Minn., native posted a new career-high score through five events on the first day of competition and expanded his lead throughout the final day. Stoudt opened Friday with a time of 14.95 seconds in the 110m hurdles for the top time in the field, and a throw of 114-4 (34.86m) in the discus stretched his lead to over 300 points.
Stoudt exceeded his previous personal-best decathlon score by 203 points.
NDSU sophomore
Matt Neururer placed fifth in the decathlon with a new high of 6,077 points after closing with the fastest 1500m time at 4:40.60. Senior
Beau Gagnon finished seventh with 5,831 points.
Bison junior
Brock Larson recorded a significant personal best of 201-11 (61.56m) in the decathlon javelin – an improvement over his previous career-best mark by nearly 19 feet. Larson also threw 127-4 (38.83m) for a new PR in the discus.
Field events get started at noon (CT) on Saturday, and running events will begin at 3 p.m.
