The Bison women earned 50.5 more points than the next-best team, finishing the day with 231 team points. South Dakota placed second with 180.5 points.
Â
NDSU saw success in nearly every event contested on the final day of the championships, but several stood out from the crowd. Senior thrower
Emily Lesser was named the Summit League Indoor Championships Field MVP, while senior distance runner
Maddie Van Beek claimed the Track MVP award. Junior
Erin Teschuk – already a champion in the distance medley relay on Friday night – won two more individual titles in the mile and 800m on Saturday.
Â
First-year NDSU head coach
Stevie Keller claimed his first career Summit League Coach of the Year honor.
Â
Lesser set a new school record on her way to winning her second straight league title in the shot put. Her winning throw of 53-05.50 (16.29m) was a new lifetime-best mark by 19 inches, and she now ranks 21st in the nation on the current NCAA performance list.
Â
Van Beek defended her league championship in the 5,000m, topping the rest of the field by more than 20 seconds in a meet record and facility record of 16:37.51. Van Beek also earned a runner-up finish in the mile – all after winning the 3,000m on Friday evening. Over the last two seasons, she captured five Summit League indoor event titles.
Â
Teschuk was her usual dominant self, clocking a meet-record 4:41.28 to win the mile and then bouncing back to capture the 800m crown in a personal-best time of 2:10.21. The Summit League Championships meet record in the mile had stood for 17 years until today.
Â
Teschuk had NDSU company on the awards stand in the 800m, as the Bison women cruised to an impressive 1-2-3 finish with sophomores
Amy Andrushko (2:11.48) and
Jenny Guibert (2:12.65).
Â
The Bison capped the day with yet another victorious exclamation point. The 4x400m relay team of
Deidre Hahn,
Melissa Kitching,
Ashley Heinze and
Morgan Milbrath raced to a title in 3:44.47, breaking a 10-year meet record.
Â
Beyond the first-place finishes, NDSU received a slew of supporting performances that locked up the eighth title in a row for the Bison. A day after winning the weight throw, sophomore
Katelyn Weimerskirch earned an All-Summit League third-place finish in the shot put, throwing 48-01.75 (14.67m). She now ranks seventh in NDSU history in the event.
Â
The Bison scored a significant 23 points in the 400m dash, led by Milbrath's runner-up finish in 55.25 that puts her at No. 7 on the school's all-time list. Kitching was third in 55.86, freshman
Alexis Woods was fourth in 56.37, and Heinze placed fifth in 56.65.
