FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State's Erin Teschuk opened her 2015 track season on Saturday afternoon by running the fastest mile in NDSU history. The junior from Winnipeg clocked 4:41.19 to win the mile at the Bison Classic inside the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility – a time that stands as the second-fastest in the nation this season.

Teschuk broke the previous school record of 4:41.96 set by Laura Hermanson in 2009. Before today's performance, the fastest mile of Teschuk's career was 4:51.31. She cut more than 10 seconds off that time.

Jessica Tonn of Stanford is the only collegian to run a faster mile this season, as Tonn clocked 4:38.00 in a race in Seattle on Saturday featuring eight professional runners. Due to being run on a 200-meter track, Teschuk's time converts to 4:38.44 and will appear as such on the national performance list.

Over the last four seasons, the time needed to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the mile has fluctuated between 4:37 and 4:39. The top 16 women in the nation earn a spot.

The Bison women excelled in the throwing events yet again. Senior Emily Lesser, redshirt freshman Courtney Pasiowitz and true freshman Kelsey Laufenberg swept the top three places in the shot put with Lesser winning the title at 49-04.50 (15.05m). Pasiowitz moved to No. 3 on the all-time list at NDSU in the event with a mark of 48-08.25 (14.84m).

Sophomore Katelyn Weimerskirch took first place in the weight throw, throwing 60-05.00 (18.41m) for the win. She came up one inch shy of her personal-best mark that already ranks fourth in NDSU history.

Juniors Anna Benke and Brittany Stangl and freshman Lauren Gietzen claimed the top three spots in the pole vault. Benke took first by clearing a lifetime-best 13-01.50 (4.00m) – a mark which ranks third all-time at NDSU. Gietzen entered the Bison all-time top 10 list at No. 8, clearing 12-01.50 (3.70m).

Bison sophomore Amy Andrushko took the 600m title in 1:33.01 – good enough for seventh in school history in the event. Freshman Jaelin Beachy claimed a runner-up finish in the 60m hurdles in 9.34 seconds.

Sophomore Deidre Hahn placed third in the high jump (5-3) and fourth in the 60m dash (7.77) and 200m dash (25.54) before leading off NDSU's winning 4x400m relay squad.

Outside the collegiate ranks, NDSU alumna and six-time USATF champion Amanda Smock won the triple jump with a mark of 44-06.25 (13.57m). Former NDSU All-American Ashley Tingelstad set a new facility record in the 400m dash, winning in 54.53 seconds.

The Bison will compete next on Saturday, Jan. 24, at South Dakota State's Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational in Brookings, S.D.
