FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team posted a series of strong performances at the Bison Classic on Saturday afternoon, led by another dominant showing in the throwing events.

The Bison swept the top five places in the men's shot put and claimed four of the top six spots in the weight throw. Sophomore Alex Renner won his second shot put title in as many tries this season, throwing 57-03.00 (17.45m) to come within six inches of his own school record. Junior Brandt Berghuis took first place in the weight throw with a mark of 60-01.75 (18.33m).

In the shot put, true freshman Payton Otterdahl was the runner-up behind Renner. Otterdahl posted a toss of 55-08.50 (16.98m) to move to No. 4 on the NDSU all-time list in the event. Berghuis placed third, and sophomores Conrad Schwarzkopf and Brian Blasey were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Schwarzkopf took second in the weight throw with a personal-best effort of 59-11.75 (18.28m) to rank eighth in NDSU history. Senior Trevor Berner placed fourth, and Renner was sixth with a PR of 56-00.50 (17.08m).

NDSU redshirt freshman Jonah Warwick took first place in the 600m run in 1:21.87, which lands him just outside the Bison all-time top 10 list in the event. Sophomore Matt Neururer placed third in 1:22.88.

With an all-out dive at the finish line, NDSU junior Brendan Skime won the mile in a career-best time of 4:19.24.

Bison junior Brock Larson won the pole vault by clearing 15-07.00 (4.75m). Grant Mjelstad took third at 15-01.00 (4.60m).

Unattached NDSU freshman Landon Jochim claimed a runner-up finish in the 400m dash, finishing in 49.73 seconds. Alex Neumiller was fourth in 50.19.

Junior Colin Paarmann placed second in the 60m hurdles (8.43) and third in the long jump (22-03.50).

The Bison will compete next on Saturday, Jan. 24, at South Dakota State's Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational in Brookings, S.D.
