Parker Trewin gave up five hits in seven innings and
Kyle Kleinendorst led North Dakota State with four hits at the plate as the Bison defeated the Maine Black Bears 13-1 in college baseball on Sunday, March 16, at Henley Field.
NDSU junior
Parker Trewin improved to 2-1 this season with a strong performance on the mound. Trewin didn't allow a hit to the Maine (7-14) lineup until the fourth inning. He finished his seven innings by striking out 10 Black Bears batters and walking one.
The Bison (6-7) jumped out to an early lead in the first, with senior
Kyle Kleinendorst stroking a two-run double that scored sophomore
Jon Hechtner and senior
Wes Satzinger.
NDSU extended its lead in the fourth, with two runs that came off a fielding error and put the game out of reach with an eight-run seventh inning.
Senior
Blake Turbak picked up two of the NDSU five hits in the seventh to lead the Bison, as they took advantage of four Maine errors.
Kleinendorst led NDSU by going 4-for-6 with three RBIs. Hechtner and Turbak had three hits apiece, while junior
David Ernst hit a two-run single in the eight-run seventh. Senior
Tim Colwell also earned a multi-hit game.
Bison freshmen
Chris Choles and
Reed Pfannenstein each pitch an inning of relief, with Pfannenstein throwing a scoreless ninth.
Maine starter Scott Heath picked up the loss for the Black Bears. He pitched five innings and allowed six runs (four earned). Troy Black went 3-for-5 and Sam Balzano had two hits to lead the Black Bears at the plate.
The Bison have an off-day Monday before returning to play in the RussMat Central Florida Invitational against Army at 2:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. CT Tuesday, March 18, at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla.
