Freddy Coleman is in his third season as an assistant coach for the North Dakota State men’s basketball team after being hired in June 2013.
His two years on the NDSU coaching staff have been two of the most successful years in school history, as the Bison have posted a combined record of 49-17 and made two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. NDSU swept the Summit League regular season and tournament championships in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
“I’ve had the pleasure of recruiting, coaching and now working with Coach Coleman on a daily basis,” said NDSU head coach David Richman. “Freddy is as well-rounded as they come. Being a student-athlete and now a coach within our program, nobody better understands or has more passion for our Bison culture than Freddy.”
Coleman was the top assistant at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. The Cobbers went from 7-18 his first season to 18-8 his second season and advanced to the semifinals of MIAC playoffs.
Coleman played three seasons at North Dakota State from 2007-11. The 6-foot-3 guard played in 31 games for the 2008-09 Bison team that won the Summit League championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. He missed his junior year with an injury and averaged a career-high 8.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists as a senior in 2010-11.
Coleman graduated from NDSU with a bachelor’s degree in sport and recreation leadership in May 2011.
