Three North Dakota State wrestlers find themselves in various preseason rankings leading into the 2012-13 season. Senior Trent Sprenkle (125), junior Steven Monk (165) and senior Mac Stoll (184) are each among the top 20 wrestlers nationwide in their respective weight classes heading into the season.
Sprenkle (Billings, Mont./Billings HS) is ranked No. 9 by Amateur Wrestling News, No. 10 by WIN Magazine and No. 10 by D1 College Wrestling at 125 pounds. He finished the 2011-12 season with a record of 33-12, coming up one win shy of obtaining All-America honors at the NCAA Championships.
Monk (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West HS) is ranked No. 8 by Amateur Wrestling News at 157 pounds and No. 12 by D1 College Wrestling at 165 pounds. Like Sprenkle, Monk went 3-2 at the 2012 NCAA Championships and finished one win short of All-America honors at 157. He led the Bison with 36 victories last season, finishing the year at 36-9 overall.
Stoll (Dent, Minn./Perham HS) is No. 19 in Amateur Wrestling News' and WIN Magazine's rankings and No. 23 by D1 College Wrestling. He went 1-2 in his first NCAA Championships appearance in 2012 and finished with a 24-14 record on the season.
The Bison will host the exhibition Alumni Dual on Friday, Nov. 2, and open the season with the 43rd annual Bison Open on Saturday, Nov. 10.
