FARGO, N.D. - Brynn Joki had 17 kills
and North Dakota State made 13 1/2 blocks to beat Kansas City 25-16, 25-20,
27-29, 25-21 in Summit League women's volleyball Saturday, Oct. 6, at the
Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse.
Megan Lambertson added 12 kills for North Dakota State, which improved
to 7-11 overall and evened its record at 4-4 in The Summit League to move into
a three-way tie for fourth place.
Emily Hagedorn hit .357 with 14 kills and
three blocks for Kansas City, and Skyler Muff added 13 kills and three blocks
as the Kangaroos dropped to 12-8 overall and are third in The Summit League
with a 5-3 record.
Four of NDSU's blocks came against UMKC
outside hitter Emily Lucas, who hit just .059 with 14 kills after erupting for
64 kills and hitting .361 her last two matches against South Dakota and South
Dakota State.
Carissa Whalen finished with six kills and led NDSU with six blocks,
including three in the fourth set. Jenni Fassbender finished with six
kills and two solo blocks.
NDSU was in position to sweep the match but
UMKC rallied from a 24-20 deficit in the third set. Jessica Hendin had
two kills and Chloe Jarema's kill tied it at 24. UMKC got a kill from
Muff and an ace from Henden to win it.
The Bison broke open a 17-17 game in the
fourth set with three straight UMKC errors including a service ace by
Lambertson. NDSU had six blocks in the fourth set including a pair of
late stuffs on Hendin to get to match point again.
North Dakota State hosts North Dakota at 7
p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9. UND is 8-10 overall and 4-4 in the Big Sky
Conference after a 3-1 win at Eastern Washington and a 3-0 loss at Portland
State over the weekend.
