North Dakota State redshirt freshman Brecca Wahlund was named The Summit League women's cross country Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. This is the second time this season that Wahlund has received the honor.
Wahlund recorded a Summit League-best 6k time of 21:26 at the Stanford Invitational - 23 seconds faster than the previous fastest time this season. The Minot, N.D., native finished 16th out of 292 runners, which included competitors from two nationally ranked teams and eight regionally ranked teams.
Wahlund led the Bison, ranked 12th in the Midwest, to a seventh-place finish out of 34 teams, finishing ahead of four ranked teams in the West Region in San Francisco (5th), UC Davis (6th), California (8th) and Cal Poly (13th).
Wahlund also owns the second-fastest 5k time in the conference this year, having run 17:51.34 at the SDSU Classic on Sept. 14.
The NDSU women's cross country team will compete next at the North Dakota Invitational in Grand Forks on Oct. 13.
