ROCHESTER, Mich.--Krista Menke tossed a two-hit shutout and Cristina Borek hit a grand slam to lead North Dakota State University to a 6-0 win over Oakland University on Saturday, March 24, at the OU Softball Field.
North Dakota State (22-11, 6-0 Summit) completed its second straight league road sweep with the win over the Golden Grizzlies (3-18, 1-8 Summit). The Bison have won eight straight games and are scheduled to host IPFW (20-6, 5-1 Summit) in a three-game series on March 30-31 at the Ellig Sports Complex.
Menke, a 5-foot-11 freshman from Friend, Neb., limited Oakland to a pair of singles. She struck out seven and issued now walks. Menke, who improved to 13-6, has five shutouts over the last six games and six overall this season.
Borek's grand slam home run highlighted a five-run fourth inning and the second grand slam in as many weeks for the Bison.
Brea Konz, Katie Tamayo and Amanda Grable all singled to start the inning before Borek hit a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence to put NDSU ahead 4-0. Jamie Gay took care of the fifth run in the inning. Gay singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then stole home.
North Dakota State closed out the second in the fifth inning. Taylor Mortensen tripled to center and scored on Tamayo's RBI single up the middle.
Tamayo and Gay each had two hits as the Bison finished with eight overall.
