ELMHURST, Ill.--North Dakota State's Zach Wentz was named Pitcher of the Week in Summit League baseball Monday, April 20, after throwing a complete-game five-hitter at South Dakota State. Wentz, a freshman right-hander from Bismarck, N.D., took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of a 3-1 victory as NDSU earned a four-game series split to maintain fourth place in The Summit League. Wentz leads the Bison with a 2.03 ERA and a .240 opponent batting average. He struck out four batters and did not allow an earned run while improving to 2-1 on the year. IPFW's Chris Gottschall was named Player of the Week after hitting .421 with three doubles, three home runs and eight RBIs in five games last week. North Dakota State, 11-18 overall and 5-6 in The Summit League, is scheduled to host Minnesota (23-12) on Wednesday before 11-time league champion Oral Roberts (21-9, 11-0) arrives for a four-game weekend series. |
