FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota State wrestling team (5-4, 1-0 WWC) will travel to Massachusetts for a double dual meet with Boston University (1-6-1) and East Stroudsburg (5-4) on Saturday, Jan. 23. The Bison will wrestle East Stroudsburg at 1 p.m. and host BU at 3 p.m. The squad will then head to Fairfield, Conn. for a match against Sacred Heart (1-10) on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. Central. Bison take down No. 6 Boise State NDSU pulled off its biggest upset since making the transition to Division I, beating No. 6-ranked Boise State on Friday, Jan. 15. The Bison won five bouts with three coming by fall. Sophomore Justin Solberg got the team off to a solid start with a pin of Mark Bleuze at 125 pounds. After two Boise State wins, junior Andrey Patselov claimed a 10-5 win over Eli Hutchinson at 149 pounds and junior Vince Salminen pinned Brad Muri at 157 pounds. Redshirt freshman Mac Stoll gave the Bison a big lead with a 10-0 win over Levi Holt at 174 pounds. Sophomore Drew Ross clinched the win for the Bison with a pin of Matt Casperson at 197 pounds. First win over ranked opponent NDSU’s victory over No. 6 Boise State was the first win over a ranked team since making the transition to Division I. The Bison were previously 0-8 against ranked opponents since 2007. Bison open WWC action with win over UNC NDSU won its second straight match for the first time since Feb. 2008 with a 21-19 victory over Northern Colorado on Sunday, Jan. 17. Northern Colorado won the first three bouts, but the Bison claimed six of the final seven matches. Senior Ryan Adams defeated No. 20 Kenny Hashimoto in an 8-2 decision at 141 pounds to kick-start the Bison rally. With NDSU down 19-12, junior Kenny Moenkedick came from behind to win a 5-4 decision over Eric Brennan at 184 pounds and cut the margin to 19-15. The Bears forfeit the 197 pound weight class, which gave the Bison the six points needed to clinch the win. About Boston University The Terriers are coming off their first win of the year, a 28-12 decision over George Mason at the CAA Duals. Head coach Carl Roberts is in his 28th year with the team. About East Stroudsburg The Warriors are competing at the Division II level after moving down from Division I. They are coming off a 28-12 loss to Navy. Head coach Joey Rivera is in his third season. About Sacred Heart The Pioneers have lost nine straight duals dating back to a 28-15 win over Stevens Tech on Nov. 15. Casey Brewster is in his third season as head coach. Adams, Johnson crack 20-win mark Senior Ryan Adams and sophomore Tyler Johnson are the only Bison to have reached the 20-win plateau so far this season. Adam’s record is 21-6 and Johnson is currently 20-5. Sophomore Justin Solberg (18 wins) and junior Andrey Patselov (16 wins) are closing in on 20-win seasons. Patselov leads the Bison with a 7-2 mark in dual meets and Solberg leads the team in pins with six. |
