Bison Shoot Best Two Rounds of Year to Begin Summit League Championship

PRIMM, Nev. - North Dakota State shot its best two rounds of the year on the first day of the Summit League men's golf championship Monday, April 23, at the Primm Valley Desert Course.

NDSU is sixth with a 579 after a 7-over-par 291 in the first round and an 4-over 288 in the second round.  NDSU's Nate Varty and Bill Carlson are in a tie for 14th place at 2-over 144 after both shot a pair of season-low 72s.

IUPUI has a 556 and leads by 10 strokes over Southern Utah and IPFW at 566.  Oral Roberts is fourth with a 572 and Western Illinois is fifth with a 577 two shots ahead of NDSU.

Zach Stenstad had the best Bison round with an even-par 71 in the afternoon and is tied for 18th with a 3-over 145.  Nathan Anderson shot a pair of 73s and is tied for 22nd at 4-over 146.

NDSU's Kyle Jandro turned in rounds of 75 and 77.

IUPUI's Ben Engle shot a 62 in the first round and is the individual leader at 8-under 134.  Teammate Michael Davan shot a 64 in the first round and is three shots back in second place.

Engle and Davan both broke the tournament 18-hole record of 65 set in 1999 by Troy's Kevin Blanton.

The final 18-hole round is scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. PT start Tuesday, April 24.
