Bison Sweep Doubleheader at IPFW 11-4, 6-0

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - North Dakota State swept both games of a Summit League baseball doubleheader from IPFW on Saturday, April 28, winning the opener 11-4 and taking the nightcap 6-0.
They were the sixth and seventh straight wins in league play for North Dakota State, which improved to 32-10 overall and 9-2 in The Summit League. IPFW fell to 12-31 overall and 4-11 in the league.
NDSU freshman David Ernst made his first weekend start in the opener and pitched five innings for the win. Ernst (3-0) allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts before Simon Anderson finished the game with four scoreless innings for his second save.
Bison senior Luke Anderson tossed his sixth complete game and first shutout of the season in the nightcap. Anderson (8-1) allowed five singles and one base on balls while striking out six.
North Dakota State trailed 1-0 in the opener before scoring six runs on seven hits in the third inning. NDSU strung together six straight singles, including a pair of two-RBI hits by Nick Colwell and Wes Satzinger, who both went 3-for-5.
Carter DeBoe and Caleb Fenimore both went 2-for-4 for IPFW in the first game. Jason Kalber (4-7) went the distance on the mound allowing 11 runs on 16 hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Nick Anderson's two-run double in the first inning gave NDSU a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, and the Bison added three more runs in the third. Nick Colwell doubled and scored on a wild pitch one out later, and Tyler Steen doubled Satzinger and Anderson for a 5-0 lead.
IPFW's Clay Hathaway went 2-for-4 and was the only player with more than one hit for either team. Starter Kyle Sorenson (1-3) allowed six runs on five hits with five walks and one strikeout in the loss.
The final game of the four-game series is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 29, at the IPFW campus.
