New Video Board and Electronic Scoreboard Coming to Newman Outdoor Field

Release: February 23, 2012

FARGO, N.D. - Newman Outdoor Field, the home facility for North Dakota State University baseball, will have a new video display and electronic scoreboard installed for the 2012 season.  The new signs will replace the original hand-operated line score and incandescent messaging display that have been in place since the park opened in June 1996.

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks purchased the board from Daktronics, the same manufacturer of the equipment used in the Fargodome and Bison Sports Arena.  It includes a 15mm light emitting diode (LED) display, which is a member of the latest generation of Daktronics' outdoor video display products.

State Bank & Trust is the primary sponsor of the scoreboard and will have a custom-built lighted display atop the new structure.  Beverage Wholesalers, Inc. and Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy, North Dakota State University, Pepsi, and Sanford Health will be featured on the four 9-foot by 9-foot backlit signs located on the board.

The overall structure will measure 43 feet by 23 feet, with the LED display measuring 26.4 feet by 13.2 feet.  The LED display will measure 264 lines of resolution tall and 528 columns of resolution wide on 15mm spacing.  It's capable of 281 trillion colors and can accept and display an HD video feed.

The physical size comparison between the new LED video display and the existing incandescent message display is approximately 348 square feet vs. 112 square feet.  Despite the size difference, the new board will use less power (18,000 watts power requirement) than the current model (36,000 watts).
