KANSAS CITY, Mo.--Krista Menke fired a one-hitter and Brea Konz went 2-for-3 with two RBI as North Dakota State University defeated UMKC 5-0 in the first round of the Summit League Softball Tournament played before 334 fans at Missouri 362 Field.

North Dakota State (35-19) is scheduled to play IPFW (43-12) at 3 p.m. Friday, May 11 in a winner's bracket game. The Mastodons defeated SUU 3-2 in Thursday's second game. UMKC (26-29) plays Southern Utah (29-24) at noon Friday. The Bison have posted four shutouts in a row in Summit League tournament play dating back to last season. NDSU has outscored opponents 23-0 over that span.

Menke, a freshman from Friend, Neb., carried a no-hitter into the top of the seventh inning. Anna Sokolik's single with two outs in the inning broke up Menke's bid for her second no-hitter of the season.

Menke (23-10) struck out seven and walked three. It was the first one-hitter of her career. Whitney Johnson no-hit UMKC on April 27 in the second game of a league doubleheader in Fargo.

The Bison opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Cristina Borek lined a double to center on the first pitch she saw. Konz then launched a 1-2 pitch for a double to left center field to score Borek.

NDSU was opportunistic in scoring twice in the bottom of the fourth inning. Alex Sobrero walked and advanced to third on a Brandi Enriquez sacrifice bunt and UMKC throwing error. Sobrero scored when Enriquez was caught in a rundown. Jenina Ortega followed with a double and scored on Katie Tamayo's RBI double down the right field line.

North Dakota State tacked on single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Amanda Grable singled with one out and moved to second on a ground out. Konz smacked a 2-2 pitch up the middle to score Grable with two outs.

Enriquez led off the sixth inning with a triple over the center fielder's head and scored on Ortega's sacrifice fly to right in foul territory. Tamayo finished the day 2-for-4 as the Bison collected eight hits.

Deanna Friese and Cinda Ramos pitched for UMKC with Friese picking up the loss. The pair combined to allow eight hits, walk five and strike out four.
