Bison Rout Northern Colorado 18-2 for Four-Game Series Sweep

GREELEY, Colo. - Tim Colwell tied a school record with five hits and North Dakota State completed a four-game series sweep with an 18-2 rout of Northern Colorado in college baseball Sunday, Feb. 26, at Jackson Field.
Colwell was 5-for-6, Max Casper went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, and Wes Satzinger was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs for the Bison, who collected 22 hits and won the by the 10-run rule in seven innings for the second straight game.
It was just the second four-game series sweep for NDSU as a Division I program. The Bison (5-2) are off to their best start in eight seasons since moving up in 2005.
North Dakota State starter Zach Wentz scattered 10 hits over six innings for the win. Wentz allowed two earned runs, struck out three and walked one. Simon Anderson pitched a hitless seventh but walked two.
NDSU got a two-run double from Satzinger and a run-scoring single from Nick Anderson to plate three runs with two outs in the first inning. The Bison tacked on two more runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead.
The Bison put the game out of reach with an eight-run fourth inning. It was NDSU's second eight-run inning of the series and its fifth of the season scoring at least five runs.
North Dakota State had nine hits - all singles - in the eight-run inning. Casper, Tim Colwell and Nick Colwell started it with three straight knocks to chase Northern Colorado starter Jake Johnson, who was responsible for eight runs on nine hits and took the loss.
Tony Crudo was 3-for-3 and Ryan Yamane was 2-for-4 for Northern Colorado, which dropped to 0-4 on the season.
North Dakota State is scheduled to play a four-game series at Southern Illinois Edwardsville beginning Friday, March 2. It will be the home opener for SIUE, which is 2-4 after losing three straight at Central Arkansas over the weekend.
