Lillejord Leads Heptathlon in Ellig Track Facility Opener

FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State junior Andy Lillejord posted the top performance in all four of the heptathlon events contested on Friday afternoon in the opening event at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility on the NDSU campus. Lillejord totaled 2,998 points to lead the field heading into Saturday's final three events.

Lillejord, the defending Summit League champion in the heptathlon, opened the day with a time of 7.10 seconds in the 60m dash. He followed up with a long jump mark of 22-11.25 (6.99m) and threw 39-11.25 (12.17m) in the shot put. Lillejord once again topped the field in the day's final event, the high jump, by clearing 6-03.25 (1.91m) for the second-best jump of his career.

NDSU redshirt freshman Kellen Plutowski stands in second place with 2,640 points through four events. Senior Ryan Jenson and redshirt freshman Alex Koppy are third and fourth, respectively.

The heptathlon will resume at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning. Field events on Saturday begin with the women's weight throw at 10 a.m. The men's and women's long jump, women's pole vault and the men's high jump will begin at 11 a.m. Running events start at 12 p.m.
