Bison Women Set to Compete at NCAA Midwest Regional

FARGO, N.D. - The Summit League champion North Dakota State women's cross country team will compete at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday, Nov. 12 hosted by Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Ill. The six-kilometer race will take place at the NIU North 40 course beginning at 1:15 p.m.
The top two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 21. At-large selections will be announced by Sunday, Nov. 13.
The Bison are one of four league title-winning teams to compete at the Midwest Regional along with No. 12 Iowa State (Big 12), Eastern Illinois (Ohio Valley) and Illinois State (Missouri Valley). The Cyclones are one of three nationally ranked teams and are joined by No. 23 Oklahoma State and No. 30 Minnesota.
The Midwest Region encompasses nine states: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri and Illinois. The region includes schools from 10 conferences, including the Atlantic10, Big 12, BIG EAST, Big Ten, Conference-USA, Horizon League, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Ohio Valley, and Summit League, as well as one D-I Independent.
Last year, the Bison finished 17th out of 27 teams at the regional meet. Amy Jo Thorne led the team with a 67th place finish. 2011 first team All-Summit selections Heidi Peterson and Jordan Krahn were 72nd and 120th, respectively.
