North Dakota State Looks to Sweep WWC at South Dakota State Friday

The North Dakota State wrestling team (9-8, 4-0 WWC) will attempt to clinch its first regular-season Western Wrestling Conference title outright on Friday, Feb. 15, when the Bison travel to Brookings, S.D., to take on South Dakota State (5-10, 1-3 WWC). NDSU is already guaranteed at least a share of the WWC regular season crown.
The dual is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Frost Arena. This will be the final WWC dual of the 2012-13 season for both schools.
Live video of the dual will be available to NDSU All-Access subscribers. Live scoring will be provided through TrackWrestling.com.
Takedown Wrestling Media will broadcast the dual on TheMat.com and TheMat TV with Takedown's Steve Foster, Chad Kriz, Scott Casber and Jeff Murphy. Takedown Wrestling's broadcast begins at 6:30 p.m. (CT) with a preview of the dual meet along with coaches' interviews.
About South Dakota State
The Jackrabbits own a 5-10 dual record and a 1-3 mark in Western Wrestling Conference action this season. SDSU has Division I wins over Indiana, SIU-Edwardsville and Northern Colorado.
SDSU 149-pounder Dustin Walraven was ranked No. 31 in the initial NCAA Coaches' Panel rankings. The senior from Huron, S.D., is 21-11 overall, 9-5 in duals and 3-1 in WWC duals.
The Series with South Dakota State
North Dakota State leads the all-time series with South Dakota State, 37-17-1. The Bison won 32-9 in Fargo on December 6 of last season.
Sprenkle In Search of 100
NDSU senior 125-pounder Trent Sprenkle owns a 99-44 career record for the Bison. He is attempting to become the eighth Bison wrestler in history to win 100 or more matches.

Eighth Ranked Opponent
On Feb. 3, No. 20 Northern Iowa became the eighth ranked opponent that NDSU has faced this season. The Bison are 3-5 in duals against ranked teams this year, with wins over No. 14 Wyoming, No. 24 Boise State and No. 25 Old Dominion. The Bison dropped duals versus No. 1 Minnesota, No. 7 Missouri, No. 9 Central Michigan, No. 15 Oregon State and No. 20 Northern Iowa.
The North Dakota State wrestling team has been ranked among the nation's top 25 programs in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll on three different occasions this season. The Bison were last ranked 25th in the poll released on Feb. 5.
Bison junior Steven Monk is 17-0 in dual meets this season and has registered victories in 20 straight dual meets dating back to Feb. 5, 2012. Monk's last defeat in a dual was a 3-2 decision by Northern Iowa's David Bonin at 157 pounds.
Two Top 10's
Monk (30-3, 17-0 duals) owns five wins this season over wrestlers ranked in the top 11 at 165 pounds - No. 7 Nick Sulzer (Virginia), No. 8 Conrad Polz (Illinois), No. 10 Cody Yohn (Minnesota), No. 10 Zach Toal (Missouri) and No. 11 Mark Lewandowski (Buffalo).
Monk is 47-6 in his last 53 matches and owns a record of 92-21 in his Bison career. His .814 career winning percentage is the ninth-best in NDSU history.
Sprenkle (24-4, 15-2 duals) is 4-2 against ranked opponents at 125 pounds this season, including wins over David Thorn of Minnesota and Christian Cullinan of Central Michigan, who were ranked No. 5 and No. 8 in the nation at the time of their meetings.
Sprenkle was ranked as high as No. 4 in December - the highest ranking ever achieved by a Bison wrestler in NDSU's Division I era. He owns 99 career wins and is aiming to become the eighth wrestler in NDSU history with 100 or more victories.
