Three Bison Claim All-Summit League Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. - Three members of the North Dakota State women's soccer team earned All-Summit League honors, the league office announced tonight. Senior Quin Ryan and junior Abbey Stratton were both named to the first team, while junior Michelle Gaffaney picked up second team honors. It is the second year in a row that two Bison have been named first team all-league.
Ryan, a forward, was a second team selection in 2009. She finished the regular season as the team leader in points with 14, notching five goals and four assists. The Georgetown, Minn. native has scored three game-winning goals this season, including two in league play against Western Illinois and South Dakota State. Earlier this week, she was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District first team.
Stratton earns her second straight selection to the first team. The center defender finished the regular season tied for second on the team in points with 11 with two goals and seven assists. She earned four Summit League Defensive Player of the Week awards and helped the Bison shut out seven opponents, including four during league action.
Gaffaney earns her first all-league award since being selected to the All-Newcomer team as a freshman. She tallied three goals this season as a key part of the Bison midfield. Against IUPUI , she scored the game-winning goal on a header in overtime.
South Dakota State's Danni Healy was named the Offensive Player of the Year and Western Illinois' Jenny Green captured the Defensive Player of the Year award. Jennifer Abernathy of Oral Roberts was the Freshman of the Year, while Oakland's Nick O'Shea earned the Coach of the Year award.
