Janae Burich Named to Capital One Academic All-America® Women's Basketball Third Team

TOWSON, Md.--North Dakota State University center Janae Burich was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® women’s basketball third team by vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today.

Burich becomes the first NDSU women's basketball player to earn Academic All-America honors since 2005 when Lacey Johnson was selected to the first team. Kristi Kremer (1988), Kasey Morlock (1997) and Jayne Even (2000) were all second team Academic all-America selections.

Burich, a 6-foot-5 junior from Roseville, Minn. (Roseville H.S.), maintains a 4.0 grade point average majoring in marketing with a minor in psychology. She is averaging 10.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

Burich has 79 blocked shots this season. The school record is 85 set by Bison Athletic Hall of Fame performer Lisa Stamp in 1986-87. On the NDSU career charts, Burich is 1st in blocks per game average (2.5 bpg) and 2nd in blocked shots (198) in 79 career games. The career record is 222 set by Lisa Stamp from 1983-87.

In Summit League play, Burich is 2nd in rebounding (8.5 rpg), 3rd in blocked shots (2.8 bpg), 4th in field goal shooting (.488) and 9th in scoring (13.3 ppg).

To be eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America® honors, student-athletes must have a 3.30 or better cumulative GPA on a 4-point scale, have sophomore athletic standing, and be a starter or key reserve for their team.

North Dakota State (9-19, 6-10 Summit League) closes out the regular season hosting Western Illinois (11-16, 7-9 Summit League) at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, and IUPUI (12-16, 7-9 Summit League) at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27.
