FARGO, N.D.--Janae Burich tied a school record with seven blocked shots and Abby Plucker recorded her ninth "double-double of the season as North Dakota State University defeated IUPUI 76-48 in a Summit League women's basketball game played Saturday, Feb. 12, before 1,619 in the Bison Sports Arena.
North Dakota State (12-12, 8-6 Summit) is scheduled to host Western Illinois (7-16, 5-8 Summit) at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb.14. The Fighting Leathernecks lost 65-40 to South Dakota State in Brookings on Saturday.
Burich, who missed the first meeting with IUPUI, recorded six of her single-game record seven blocked shots in the first half. Five different players have broken the blocked shots record on six occasions, the last by Jeri Penley at Oakland on Feb. 4, 2008.
Burich scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her first collegiate "double-double".
North Dakota State overcame a sluggish start, making only two of its first 10 field goal attempts and shooting only 28.1 percent in the first half. The score was tied five times in the opening period. Dani DeGagne and Plucker each had eight points as the Bison built a 30-25 halftime lead.
NDSU exploded in the second half, hitting 54.5 percent from the field and outrebounding the Jaguars 24-10. The Bison finished with a season-high 53 rebounds. IUPUI (3-20, 1-12 Summit) made only 33.3 percent from the field overall.
Plucker scored 16 of her game-high 24 points in the second half and led a group of four Bison in double-figures scoring. It was the 10th time she has reached 20-plus points in a game, the seventh this season.
DeGagne finished with 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting, while Katie Birkel netted 13 points. Birkel increased her career total to 979 points to move past Mari Matheson into 28th place on the NDSU scoring list.
Plucker finished with a game-high 11 rebounds to complete her ninth "double-double" of the season -- her sixth over the past the nine games.
Dawn Luster, who made 3 of 5 three-pointers, led IUPUI with 13 points. Shea Collins added 10 points for the Jaguars, which lost their 14th straight game.
