Dakota State made it two in a row over the University of Montana in the
Camellia Bowl by whipping the Grizzlies 31-16 to cap NDSU's third straight
undefeated season...It was NDSU's fifth victory in six bowl games over a
seven-year span...The Bison took advantage of five Montana fumbles and the play
of quarterback Mike Bentson, who totalled 208 yards of total offense and scored
three touchdowns on runs of 4, 1 and 5 yards...Dennis Preboski scored from 5
yards out and Jim Twardy booted a 34-yard field goal for the Bison...NDSU led
28-3 in the second quarter and was never seriously threatened...The Bison
finished the year 9-0-1 with the only blemish a 14-14 tie with Eastern Michigan
in the season opener...The Bison won their seventh straight North Central
Conference championship and finished third in the AP poll and fourth in the UPI
poll.
