BROCK JENSEN, RYAN SMITH PICK UP WEEKLY VALLEY FOOTBALL HONORS: North Dakota State University quarterback Brock Jensen was named Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while wide receiver/return specialist Ryan Smith earned Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 7 ... Smith was named the College Football Performance Awards.com National Punt Returner of the Week, while Jensen also picked up CFPA honors ... Jensen, a 6-foot-3, 224-pound junior from Waupaca, Wis. (Waupaca H.S.) completed 15 of 23 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns as No. 1-ranked North Dakota State defeated No. 3 Youngstown State 48-7 on Oct. 6 before a school record crowd of 19,065 at Gate City Bank Field ... Jensen completed scoring passes to Zach Vraa with a 46-yard strike on the flea-flicker with 4:23 left in the first quarter and a 16-yard pass to Ryan Smith with 51-seconds left in the second quarter ... He reached 200-yards passing for the eighth time in his career ... Smith, a 5-foot-7, 175-pound, junior from Wahpeton, N.D. (Wahpeton H.S.) returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter against Youngstown State ... CAMPBELL TROPHY: North Dakota State University tight end Garrett Bruhn is one of 147 candidates for the 2012 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments®, a leading provider of not-for-profit workplace retirement savings plans in higher education ... The 147 nominees also comprise the list of semifinalists for the 2012 William V. Campbell Trophy, endowed by HealthSouth, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation ... Bruhn, a 6-foot-1, 241-pound senior from Beatrice, Neb. (Beatrice H.S.), maintains a 3.312 grade point average majoring in criminal justice with a minor in accounting ... He is one of four captains for the Bison this season ... Bruhn, who had a career-long 30-yard reception at Western Illinois in 2011, has been a major contributor since his freshman year and has played in 41 games. He helped to open holes for a pair of 1,000-yard rushers last year.
BISON QUICK-HITTERS: Cornerback Marcus Williams recorded his third interception of the season and 14th of his career -- a 98-yard pick six against Youngstown State (10-6-12) ... It was his fourth interception return for TD, sixth score overall including lateral and kickoff return ... Williams is tied for second all-time at NDSU with Rudy Baranko (1964-66) with the 14 interceptions ... North Dakota State won at Northern Iowa for the first time since 1976 when the Bison posted a 10-9 win at the UNI-Dome ... Wide receiver Zach Vraa caught a career and season-high eight passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns vs. Prairie View A&M (9-22-12) ... Vraa caught TD passes of 11 and 69 yards from Brock Jensen ... His 69-yard TD reception was the longest for NDSU since Nick Mertens and Gary Williams hooked up on a school record 95-yard score against Illinois State on Oct. 3, 2009 ... He completed 15 of 23 passes for 200 yards and two TDs in the win over No. 3 Youngstown State (10-6-12) ... Jensen recorded his eighth career 200-yard passing game ... He completed 22 of 31 passes for a career-high 243 yards and one touchdown in the win at No. 14/17 Northern Iowa on Sept. 29 ... The 22 completions tied a career-high for Jensen and the 31 attempts are a career best ... The Bison allowed 88 yards of total offense against Robert Morris on Sept. 1 and 243 at Colorado State on Sept. 8 ... Robert Morris only had three snaps inside NDSU territory with the 48-yardline as the farthest advancement ... The 88 yards vs. Robert Morris was the lowest total offense yardage allowed since Angelo State was limited to 80 (-9 rushing, 89 passing) in 2001 ...
