Former NDSU Triple Jumper Smock 27th in Olympic Qualifying Round

LONDON - Former North Dakota State triple jumper Amanda (Thieschafer) Smock finished 27th in the qualification round Friday, Aug. 3, at the London Olympic Games.
Smock scratched on her first attempt, made 13.43 meters on her second attempt, and made her best mark of 13.61 meters (44 feet, 8 inches) on the third and final attempt.
Only the top 12 competitors advanced to Sunday's final round. Smock was 11th in Group A, which advanced seven. Five advanced from Group B with the final qualifier going 14.16 meters (46 feet, 5 1/2 inches).
Smock was a three-time NCAA Division II national champion and 13-time All-American from 2001-04 at North Dakota State. She was the only American among the 35 women competing.
