Januszewski Knocked Out in First Round of U.S. Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. - Former North Dakota State All-American Laura (Hermanson) Januszewski was eliminated from the 800-meter run in the first round of qualifying at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Friday, June 22.

Januszewski, a two-time All-American and three-time Summit League champion at NDSU from 2005 to 2009, ran a time of 2 minutes, 7.50 seconds that was last in her eight-person heat and 28th overall out of 32 competitors.

Sixteen women advanced to Saturday's semifinal round led by Molly Beckwith's time of 2 minutes, 0.61 seconds.  Katie Palmer was the last qualifier with a time of 2:03.66.

North Dakota State senior Leslie Brost was scheduled to compete in the women's pole vault preliminaries Friday, but rain postponed the event.  All 24 women will compete in the final round Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. PDT.

Saturday's schedule has NDSU men's javelin throw record holder Riley Dolezal (2005-09) competing in the preliminary round at 12:30 p.m. PDT.

Also competing Saturday at 3:20 p.m. PDT in the women's triple jump prelims is reigning U.S. indoor and outdoor champion Amanda (Thieschafer) Smock, who was a 13-time Division II All-American at NDSU from 2001 to 2004.
