MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.--Host University of Minnesota took advantage of 19 steals and scored 36 points off of turnovers to defeat North Dakota State University 65-37 in a women's college basketball game played Tuesday, Nov. 24, before a crowd of 4,112 at Williams Arena.

North Dakota State (1-3) is scheduled to host Ball State (2-2) at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, as part of doubleheader, and Denver (1-1) at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29. Ball State defeated Valparaiso 71-64 on Tuesday night.

The Bison cut the lead to 33-29 with 14:45 left on back-to-back three-pointers from Inger Hodgson and Abby Plucker.

However, turnovers and Minnesota's size and speed sparked a run that put the game out of reach. China Antoine had four steals, three points and an assist during that stretch. Leah Cotton led the Gophers with 15 points, while Jackie Voigt added 10.

The Gophers (4-1) scored 18 straight points over the next 6 minutes broken up by Hodgson's three-pointer with 8:02 remaining. Hodgson led NDSU with 11 points.

North Dakota State started slow and managed only one field goal -- an Ashley Samuelson runner from the lane -- in the game's first 15 1/2 minutes. The Bison had a season-high 17 turnovers in the first half and finished with 35 miscues overall.

Minnesota (4-1) took advantage of 10 steals and led by as many as 15 points with 5:46 left in the opening period. However, the Gophers made only 28.6 percent from the field in the first half.

The Bison battled back and cut the lead to 26-20 on Samuelson's layup off of a steal from inbounds pass with 1:40 left in the first half. Minnesota led 28-21 at halftime. NDSU hit 11 of 11 free throw attempts in the first half.

Minnesota hit 28.8 percent overall from the field and held a 41-32 rebounding advantage led by Zoe Harper's game-high nine rebounds. The Gophers connected on 27 of 36 free throw overall compared to NDSU's 11 of 14.
