Bison Softball Falls to No. 12 UCLA 7-1

LOS ANGELES, Calif.--Ally Carda hit a pair of home runs and picked up the win as 12th-ranked UCLA defeated North Dakota State University 7-1 in a women's college softball game played Tuesday, March 12, before 172 at Easton Stadium.
North Dakota State (10-12) is scheduled to play Northern Illinois (6-12) at noon Central and Loyola Marymount (13-11) at 4 p.m. Central on Wednesday, March 13.
The Bison tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second when Logan Moreland received a walk with the bases loaded.
UCLA (23-4) took the lead for good at 2-1 in the bottom of the second on a run-scoring single by Allexis Bennett. The Bruins extended the advantage to 3-1 in the third on Carda's first of two home runs -- a solo shot to center.
Carda, who went 3-for-3 with five RBI, launched her second home run -- a three-run shot to left -- in the bottom of the fifth inning.
NDSU received singles from Amanda Grable, Alyssa Reina, Jenna Isbel and Moreland The Bison left 10 runners on base.
Carda, who improved to 14-2 on the mound, struck out seven, walked four, scattered four hits and allowed an unearned run over the first five innings. Jessica Hall struck out four and walked two.
Whitney Johnson (7-6) and Krista Menke pitched for NDSU with Johnson picking up the loss. Johnson struck out two and walked one, while Menke had a pair of strikeouts.
