North Dakota State (2-1) is scheduled to host Northern Iowa (0-1) at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Bison Sports Arena (5,830) ... NDSU lost 80-61 at Boise State on Nov. 13 ... Dani DeGagne scored 19 points, while Marena Whittle recorded her first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds ... Northern Iowa opened the season with a 54-53 loss to nationally-ranked Green Bay on Nov. 10 ... Jacqui Kalin led UNI with 17 points, while Brooke Brown scored 10 points, and Jen Keitel added eight points and nine rebounds ... The Panthers host South Dakota on Thursday ... The Bison opened the season with an 81-72 win over Harvard on Nov. 9 led by DeGagne’s game-high 19 points ... NDSU made 24 of 26 free throws and scored 30 points off 23 Crimson turnovers ... North Dakota State University was picked fourth in The Summit League preseason poll in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches, SIDs and media ... Five-foot-eight senior guard Katie Birkel was named to the league’s preseason first team, while 6-foot-5 senior center Janae Burich was selected to the second team ... Four-time Summit League tournament champion South Dakota State was picked to finish first ... Kansas City was second and Oakland was third.
Three Bison Earn All-Summit League Honors, Burich 2nd Team
North Dakota State 6-foot-5 center Janae Burich was named to 2012 All-Summit League second team, 5-foot-11 forward Abby Plucker was honorable mention, and 5-foot-9 guard Jamie Van Kirk was selected to the All-Newcomer team ... Plucker was a first-team selection on the 2011 all-league team, while Burich and Van Kirk were honored for the first time.
Burich Named to Capital One Academic All-America® Third Team
North Dakota State center Janae Burich was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® women’s basketball third team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) ... Burich, a 6-foot-5 junior from Roseville, Minn. (Roseville H.S.) maintains a 4.0 grade point average majoring in marketing with a minor in psychology ... Burich became the first NDSU women’s basketball player to earn Academic All-America® honors since 2005 when Lacey Johnson was selected to the first team ... Kristi Kremer (1988), Kasey Morlock (1997) and Jayne Even (2000) were all second team Academic all-America selections.
Burich and the Blocked Shot
North Dakota State 6-foot-5 senior center Janae Burich tied the school single-game record of seven blocked shots in the 77-70 win over IPFW on Dec. 29 in the Bison Sports Arena ... She tied the record last season vs. IUPUI and shares the record with five other players ... Burich has three blocked shots this season ... On the NDSU career charts, Burich is 1st in blocks per game average (2.5 bpg) and 2nd in blocked shots (211) in 85 career games ... The career record is 222 set by Lisa Stamp from 1983-87 ... She was 14th nationally in 2012.
Linz and the Three-Point Shot
North Dakota State 5-foot-11 senior guard Hannah Linz was the only Bison player to start in all 31 games last season and ranked 12th nationally in three-point accuracy ... On the career charts, Linz is 3rd in three-pointers made (142) and three-pointers attempted (406), and 8th in three point shooting (.350, 142-406).
