Release: September 09, 2012
GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Solid goalkeeping and a three-goal outburst on offense helped the North Dakota State women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over in-state rival North Dakota on Sunday afternoon at Bronson Field.
NDSU redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sierra Bonham recorded stop after stop against the UND attack, finishing the match with 10 saves.
Senior Holly Christian gave the Bison a lead midway through the first half, beating UND goalkeeper Kristi Hestdalen in the 23rd minute.
NDSU (3-4-0) poured on two more goals in the second half. Sophomore Anisha Kinnarath notched her team-leading third goal of the season in the 63rd minute, and senior Brooklyn Dyce added another score in the 78th minute. Sophomore Rachel Trudeau assisted on Dyce's goal.
North Dakota (2-3-1) owned a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal but could not beat Bonham, who recorded the first shutout of her career.
With the victory, NDSU took a 4-3-1 lead in the all-time series with UND.
The Bison will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a match against Northern Iowa on Friday, Sept. 14. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
