Trevino, Oral Roberts Take Series Opener From North Dakota State, 5-1

TULSA, Okla. - Freshman Jose Trevino went 4-for-4 with his 11th home run and three RBIs to lead Oral Roberts to a 5-1 win over North Dakota State in Summit League baseball Thursday, May 17, at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
Trevino also pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Oral Roberts (31-21, 15-5). Logan Domenico and Jared Schlehuber both doubled and went 2-for-4 for the Golden Eagles.
North Dakota State (37-16, 13-8) got its only run in the first inning when Tim Colwell singled, moved to second on Nick Colwell's bunt, and scored on Zach Wentz's single.
The Bison wasted leadoff doubles by Wes Satzinger in the fourth and Kyle Kleinendorst in the fifth when Domenico threw out both runners at the plate from right field to keep ORU ahead 2-1.
Trevino homered to lead off the ORU sixth past a leaping Nick Anderson, and the Golden Eagles tacked on two more in the seventh on RBI singles by Trevino and Schlehuber.
NDSU starter John Straka went 6 2/3 innings with five runs, 10 hits, two walks and five strikeouts, and dropped to 7-4 with the loss. Simon Anderson got the final four outs of the game.
ORU starter Drew Bowen scattered eight hits over 7 1/3 innings with no walks and five strikeouts and upped his record to 5-2. Lefty Lars Ligouri got the final two outs of the eighth.
North Dakota State and Oral Roberts continue the four-game series with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday, May 18, and the final game is at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19.
NDSU needs to win the final three games and have Southern Utah at least split its four-game series at Oakland for the Bison to win the Summit League title. SUU won 10-8 Thursday.
