Bret Maughan is in his 12th season as an assistant wrestling coach at North Dakota State. Maughan has had head coaching stints at Bismarck (N.D.) State College from 1993-1995 and Moorhead (Minn.) High School from 1995-2000 before moving to NDSU.

On the mat, Maughan was a three-year letterman and two-time Division II All-American at North Dakota State, placing second at 118 pounds in 1991 and third at 118 pounds in 1990. A native of Fargo, Maughan lettered six times in wrestling and was a four-time state champion at North High. He is a distinguished member of the North Dakota Wrestling Hall of Fame, the Fargo North Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the Fargo North High School Hall of Fame.

Maughan earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and coaching from North Dakota State in 1992. He has two sons, Lukas and Yukon, and one daughter, Jaclyn.
