North Dakota State Free Safety Nick Schommer Named to Associated Press FCS All-America Third Team

NEW YORK--North Dakota State University free safety Nick Schommer was named to The Associated Press Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America third team released on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

Schommer, a 6-foot, 197-pounds senior from Prescott, Wis. (Prescott H.S.), was third in the Missouri Valley Football Conference in pass breakups (1.10 avg.) and fourth in interceptions (3). He tied for third all-time at NDSU with 13 interceptions.

A first team all-conference performer, Schommer was fifth on the team with 54 tackles including 33 solos, 4.5 tackles for loss and one sack. He recorded a career-high 11 tackles at Youngstown State (9-20-08), and twice had a career best seven solo tackles against Wyoming (9-13-08) and Missouri State (11-15-08).

Armanti Edwards can add All-American to a list of accomplishments that already includes two national championships and one of the greatest upsets in college football history.

The Appalachian State quarterback and fellow Walter Payton Award finalist Herb Donaldson of Western Illinois headline the AP's FCS All-America Team.

Edwards had his best passing season yet as a junior, throwing for 2,902 yards and 30 touchdowns, to go along with 941 yards rushing.

Donaldson leads the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) with 162 yards rushing per game.

Montana, which plays Richmond for the national championship on Saturday, had two first-teamers: offensive lineman Colin Dow and safety Colt Anderson.
