Olson, Carlson Lead NDSU to Second Place at Sam Houston State

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The North Dakota State men's golf team made a second-place finish at the Harold Funston Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Raven Nest Golf Club.
Host Sam Houston State won the tournament with a 15-under-par 837, North Dakota State was second (877), Tyler Junior College was third (897), Texas-Pan American fourth (903), Jacksonville Community College fifth (914) and Texas Southern sixth (984).
Sophomores Trent Olson and Bill Carlson led the way for NDSU. Olson shot an even-par 71 in the final round and finished fourth at 1-over 214. Carlson's final-round 69 was NDSU's best round of the tournament and put him in a tie for fifth place at 215.
NDSU senior Nathan Anderson tied for 14th place at 222, freshman Connor Holland tied for 22nd with a 227, and senior Nate Varty placed 33rd with a 241.
Sam Houston State had the top three individual finishers. Micah Hill won it with a 10-under 203, Logan Boatner was second with a 210 and Justin McKay was third with a 211.
North Dakota State is scheduled to close out its fall schedule next Monday, Oct. 15, and Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Kansas City, Mo.
