Wahlund Leads Bison at SDSU Classic
Release: September 14, 2012
BROOKINGS, S.D. - Redshirt freshman Brecca Wahlund led the North Dakota State women's cross country team for the second consecutive meet, finishing 10th overall at the SDSU Classic held at Edgebrook Golf Course on Friday evening.
Wahlund completed the five-kilometer course in 17:51.34 - an improvement of 23 seconds over her 5k time in the season-opening Bison Invitational two weeks ago. Wahlund has now been the top NDSU finisher in both meets of her collegiate career.
Junior Heidi Peterson crossed the line in 18:19.73 for 13th place, trimming more than 40 seconds off her season opener in the 5k. Sophomore Abbi Aspengren was close behind, taking 15th in 18:24.89.
Sophomore Megan Feyereisen was the No. 4 finisher for the Bison in 20:16.93, and junior Kathryn Houle rounded out the scoring in 21:36.02.
The Bison were able to claim a fourth-place finish as a team, despite not running three of the team's top runners in the meet. Minnesota won the team title with a perfect score of 15.
NDSU will compete next on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
