Mijailovic, Orgon Win Titles as Bison Men Lead Summit League Track & Field Championships

Mijailovic claimed the league title in the javelin with a personal best throw of 200 feet 9 inches, improving on his previous best by a massive 19 feet 9 inches and becoming the first Bison to break the 200 foot barrier this year. The Bison also earned points from Adam Coykendall and Brock Larson. Coykendall picked up five points after finishing fourth with a mark of 192-4 and Larson earned one points after taking eighth with a throw of 176-5.
In the hammer, Orgon won his second consecutive league title with a throw of 196 feet 3 inches on his first attempt. Blake Elsen tallied five points, taking fourth with a personal best throw of 178-8, which ranks sixth in school history. Josh Eiler finished sixth and earned three points with a personal best mark of 176-3, which is eighth all-time.
Marty Joyce finished fifth in the 10,000 meter race with a time of 32 minutes 17.34 seconds. He earned four points for the Bison.
Weston Leutz sits in second place after the first five events of the decathlon with 3,693 points, only 58 points behind leader Wade Nielsen of Southern Utah. Leutz was first in both the 100 meters in 10.93 seconds and the 400 meters in 51.07 seconds. Larson is fourth with 3,184 points and Beau Gagnon is sixth with 3,086 points. Alex Koppy sits eighth with 2,880 points and Dan Gorghuber is ninth with 2,873 points.
Action resumes Friday, May 10 beginning at 11 a.m. with the final five events of the decathlon. Field events will start at 3 p.m. and running events at 4:30 p.m.
