NDSU hosts outdoor championships next weekend
NDSU will host the 2012 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Ellig Sports Complex May 10-12. This will be the first time the Bison have hosted the outdoor championships after hosting the indoor meet in 2010 and 2011. The Bison men won their second straight league outdoor title last year.
Records fall at Drake Relays
The distance medley relay team of Moses Heppner, Jason Duchscherer, Alec Espeland and Travis Fitzke finished sixth at the Drake Relays April 28 in a school record time of 9 minutes 41.85 seconds. The relay broke the 1979 record of 9:43.65 set by Mike Bollman, Kevin Donnalley, Rick Paal and Curt Bacon. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Jerome Begin, Matt Tetzlaff, Parker McKittrick and Weston Leutz also set a school record, finishing second in 58.05 seconds, breaking the previous record of 59.78 seconds set in 2010.
Four Bison ranked nationally
Four members of the NDSU men's track and field team are ranked by TFRRS in their respective events. Matt Tetzlaff is ranked No. 42 in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.03 seconds. Jesse Morrow is tied for 75th in the pole vault with a mark of 16 feet 9 1/4 inches, while Casey Orgon is tied for 57th in the hammer with his school record mark of 195 feet 2 inches. Weston Leutz is No. 45 in the decathlon with a score of 6,920 points.
