FARGO, N.D.--Outside hitter Brooke VandenBergh had 15 kills and three aces to lead top-seeded North Dakota State to a 25-14, 25-11, 25-20 sweep of fourth-seeded UMKC in the Summit League women's volleyball semifinals Friday, Nov. 20, before a crowd of 1,338 at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. It was the 20th straight home victory for North Dakota State, which improved to 23-3 overall and advanced to face third-seeded IPFW in the 7 p.m. championship match Saturday, Nov. 21. The Mastodons swept IUPUI in the first semfinal. Outside hitter Brynn Joki and middle hitter Chrissy Knuth added eight kills apiece for NDSU. Setter Jennifer Lopez had match highs of 31 assists and 15 digs, and libero Kelly Lopez added 13 digs for the Bison. North Dakota State outdug UMKC by a 61-40 margin and outhit the Kangaroos .190 to .027. The Bison had nine service aces, including three by VandenBergh. Jamie Hagerman had six kills for UMKC and libero Nicole Kerkman made a team-high 12 digs. The Kangaroos ended their season 15-16 overall. North Dakota State has won four straight matches against IPFW, including a 3-0 home victory in the last meeting. |
