FARGO, N.D.--The North Dakota State wrestling team and 197-pound junior Jacob Bryce were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s annual All-Academic Top 30 and individual All-Academic Team for the 2007-08 season Thursday, May 8.
North Dakota State had the 17th best team grade-point average on the Top 30 list with an average GPA of 2.973 among its 10 starters and two reserves. Bryce, a business administration major from Glenwood, Minn., ranked 10th out of 88 wrestlers on the individual All-Academic Team with a 3.85 cumulative GPA.
Bryce, a two-time NCAA Division I national qualifier, landed on the All-Academic Team for the second straight season. NDSU ranked 10th in the team standings last year with a 3.015 average GPA.
To be eligible for consideration, teams counted 12 wrestlers including their 10 conference tournament or NCAA regional entries. Individual wrestlers must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA, been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of his schedule. NCAA All-Americans with a 3.0 cumulative GPA also qualified.
North Dakota State was 11-9 overall and 4-2 in the Western Wrestling Conference this year. The Bison placed fifth in the NCAA West Regional and qualified three wrestlers for the NCAA Division I national championships.
